Today, together with members of the Hungarian government, I welcomed the President of Egypt, Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, to Parliament. I thanked President @AlsisiOfficial for Egypt's efforts to foster peace and security in the Middle East and Europe. We agreed on the importance of combating illegal migration and bringing the ongoing international conflicts to an end. We agreed that, building on the longstanding friendship between Hungary and Egypt, we would further strengthen cooperation in the fields of economic development, security, water management, energy and education. The Hungarian and Egyptian transport ministers have reached a constructive, forward-looking agreement on the delivery of railway carriages being manufactured for Egypt at the Dunakeszi Vehicle Repair Plant. Hungarian State Railways will manufacture a further 44 carriages by October 2027, and we will bring the contracts signed in 2018 to a close without legal disputes. We inherited a bankrupt vehicle repair plant from the previous government, along with unfulfilled commitments to Egypt. The TISZA government therefore had to resolve this commercial and diplomatic issue in a way that would restore confidence and reassure our Egyptian partners. The Hungarian government intends to make use of the expertise of specialists at the now state-owned Dunakeszi Vehicle Repair Plant. The two sides will therefore explore opportunities for further cooperation on transport infrastructure development.
