Ayman’s mother… confronting the tribe

Ayman’s mother confronted her tribe, prevented them from blood feud, and upheld the reconciliation. She accepted the killer’s providing the shroud.

Ayman’s mother is in her seventies. 26 years ago, she married Mohamed, who belongs to a Bedouin tribe and lives in a village in the south of Port Said, after the death of his first wife and the birth of Eid, who married Hashem’s mother.

Two years after Eid’s marriage, the family's troubles began, and all attempts at reconciliation between the spouses failed. As the disputes continued, they separated, and Eid left the house for his ex-wife and their child and rented another house.

A month after their separation, Hashem's mother and her brother broke into the home of her ex-husband on Sunday afternoon (January 13, 2019). And they seized the furniture of the house. A man told the father of her ex-husband, “Hashem's mother steals your son's furniture."

The latter rushed to stop them, so the brother of Hashem's mother hit him with the car loaded with stolen furniture, "running him over," and the father was killed instantly.

As soon as they learned of the incident, members of the victim's tribe gathered, armed with weapons, smashed the flint designated for receiving mourners, and expelled all those present in the area, "we don't receive condolences, we have a blood feud."

At nightfall, everyone went to their houses, agreeing to return in the morning to discuss how to take revenge.

While the victim’s four sons are planning and preparing to take revenge on the killer, their mother, Ayman's mother resorted to God. She prayed to God to end the ordeal and the grief. She said, “Lord, guide me to what pleases you, Lord, don't deprive me of my children,” until her thinking guided her to ask her uncle’s help in persuading her sons with the need to be patient and avoid nervousness and avenge the killer.

The mother tried to persuade her sons to be patient and avoid intolerance for a whole month. "The blood feud is nothing but grief. When you forgive, our Lord will compensate you and forgive your father.”

When she persuaded her sons with her opinion, Ayman's mother went out to confront the tribe, declaring her refusal to blood feud.

She realized the difficulties she was facing, and the dangers as well, especially from her husband's tribe, but that did not prevent her from refusing to blood feud and confront everyone else.

The elders of the tribe revolted and were angry at the woman's decision: "You will destroy our faith - you have no opinion," but she stuck to that and accepted the providing of the shroud.

Ayman’s mother said, describing her feelings after ending the enmity and providing the shroud, “I kept them safe, slept comfortable and became happy me and my sons”.
