what is the Sexual harassment?المركز المصرى لحقوق المرأة

Sexual harassment on the street is a growing problem. No longer limited to words, harassment takes many forms, all sharing the basic tone of aggression and causing the target to feel violated or unsafe. The Egyptian Center for Women’s Rights (ECWR) has received a huge volume of complaints from women in Egypt who face a daily and sometimes overwhelming barrier to accomplishing the simplest tasks because they face varying levels of intimidation, indecent exposure or other violent acts almost every time they leave their home.

ECWR has launched a campaign to fight sexual harassment that targets the media, the general public, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Education. We are collecting stories from as many women as possible to include in a report that we will use to pressure the government and media to publicly address this problem and make our streets safe again.

Please help us by sharing your stories – they will be vital to our campaign! Please fill out the below questionnaire and return to ecwr@link.net or Rebecca Chiao, ECWR, 135 Misr Helwan El-Zeraay, 2nd Floor, Suite 3, Hadayak El Maadi, Cairo

Share your story

As part of our publicity and report materials, we are collecting stories from women in their own words. Each situation is unique, and regardless of the frequency of harassment each individual act of harassment is threatening and uncomfortable in its own way. We want to hear and share your stories. Please tell us about a particular harassment incident in more detail.
Use as much space as you require. Please provide any additional information you feel is appropriate. You may use Arabic or English.

  1. What happened? How did you feel afterwards?

  3. What was the reaction of other people around you?

  4. How do you feel now? Have you received support from others? If so, who? What sort of support?
